Rachel was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to parents who instilled in her a strong work ethic and a
determination to succeed. While growing up, Rachel watched her father go to work each day in a machine shop in the sweltering New Orleans heat and knew that he was working so hard each day to provide the best educational opportunities for her and her older brother. It was this work ethic that pushed her to do well in school and developed a passion for learning and reading any and everything she could get her hands on. On a wing and a prayer, Rachel and her husband, Eddie, moved to Houston in June 2016 and have, since then, called Houston home. Rachel and Eddie have two young children who keep them on their toes.
Education
Rachel graduated in the top 5 of her class in 2000 from Archbishop Blenk High School, an all-girls Catholic school in Gretna, Louisiana. With multiple scholarship offers to attend college out of state, Rachel decided to stay local and attend Loyola University New Orleans. She graduated magna cum laude in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. She continued her education at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law where she earned a juris doctorate in 2008.
Legal Background
While in law school, Rachel worked as an assistant in the New Orleans Teen Court, a program to rehabilitate at-risk youth. After Hurricane Katrina, Teen Court was dissolved and Rachel began working as a law clerk in the Law Office of James Arruebarrena handling employment discrimination and workplace retaliation cases. Upon passing the Louisiana bar exam in 2009, Rachel became a member of that firm where she practiced all aspects of Plaintiff’s employment law until July 2012. In September 2012, Rachel began practicing plaintiff’s personal injury law at a small firm in Lafayette, Louisiana. It was at this firm that Rachel’s skills as a litigator took shape. She developed a love and skill for appellate work, drafting appellate briefs and arguing before the circuit courts in South Louisiana. One of her most prideful moments came when she successfully argued the Louisiana merchant statute before the First Circuit in Baton Rouge, which reversed a trial court dismissal of a slip and fall injury. Rachel joined the dynamic group at Fitts Law Firm in November 2019 focusing on motor vehicle accidents and complex property litigation. She brings with her over ten years litigation experience in injury cases, including motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall injuries, medical malpractice, maritime injuries, and much more.
Affiliations
Rachel is licensed to practice law in all State and Federal courts in Texas and Louisiana. She is also licensed to practice before the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
