Cristina’s family moved to East Texas from Mexico when she was only one year old. While her family struggled to build a new life in a new country, Cristina started school without speaking any English. After quickly becoming fluent in English as well as Spanish, Cristina learned that education and hard work were essential to overcoming her family’s hardship. She set a goal of taking full advantage of the opportunity she was given to grow up, study, live and work in the United States.

Legal Background

While in law school, Cristina worked as a law clerk for a Houston law firm that specializes in personal injury as well as multi-district pharmaceutical litigation and product liability cases. After law school, Cristina began practicing law at The Carter Law Firm where, for seven years, she handled a wide variety of cases and issues, including the Firm’s general litigation docket, some medical malpractice defense and an immigrant investor visa program. Cristina was eventually assigned to supervise the Firm’s administrative appeals docket of over 5000 cases pending in the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation, the State Office of Administrative Hearings and the Travis County District Courts. Cristina subsequently spent a couple of years providing litigation support and negotiating general liability settlements for an international retailer before accepting a position to manage the Fitts Law Firm’s Transvaginal Mesh docket.

Cristina attended Lufkin High School then attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas where she earned a BA in Political Science and Spanish. While at SFA, Cristina was selected as the recipient of the Nacogdoches Rotary Club’s Ambassadorial Scholarship, which led to a year of legal studies in Madrid, Spain at la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. After returning from Spain, Cristina obtained a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law.
